The first story I read was "
"Hindu Gods and Their Vahanas". I had no idea what a 'vahana' was, so I clicked the Storybook to find out. The first image I saw was a large elephant looking God riding on a mouse. The story behind it was that Ganesh, the son of Lord Shiva and Paravathi, was a kind soul who made the best out of a bad situation. At a birthday party for Lord Indra, Kroncha was dancing and accidentally stepped on the toes of a hot tempered God. His punishment for this act was being transformed into a large rodent. As other Gods watched on, Ganesh comforted him and took him on as his Vahana, which means vehicle :-)
The second story I read was
"Weapons of the Gods". The title of this storybook is what originally caught my eye. The introduction laid a good foundation for that the Storybook contained. Out of the three stories, The Trishula, Gada, and Gandiva, my favorite was Gandiva. Each story talked about a different weapon used by rather a single God or one that was passed down for centuries. I can definitely tell that I want to spend more time reading about these!
Lastly, I really enjoyed
"Travel Diary Through India". I love traveling, so I am particularly fond of this one. The author really focuses in on the Hindu pilgrimage to many historically significant sites. She incorporates the different mantras of each God as she explores different areas through the perspectives of the Gods. This was unique in that the author had to have a good grasp of the thoughts and emotions related to these different Gods, in order to accurately portray their possible thoughts and feelings about certain places. I hope to be as familiar with the different Gods as this author is.
