Week 8 Growth Mindset

The idea of Growth Mindsets really intrigues me. I firmly believe that we get comfortable in our complacency, and challenging and examining the way in which we think is a great way to change that. When thinking about how I view things, I definitely have many strengths and weaknesses. Some of my strengths include my willingness to try new things, knowing that I can improve, being open to feedback, asking questions, and focusing on my own progress. My weaknesses include leaving things until the last minute, choosing whats easy, focusing on grades, and being a perfectionist. I need to try heard to find a productive balance between these two. I can use this class to overcome my weaknesses in many ways. First of all, I need to take better advantage of the privilege of working ahead. I like a bunch of little gaps of time throughout each day, and if I started using those to get at least 1 assignment done, I could be most of the way through the course! Additionally, I need to not be such a perfectionist about everything. My need to come up with a super original, fun, and entertaining story often leaves me doing a story planning post; instead of just jumping into a story. I look forward to working on these things during the second part of this class!

  1. Hey Maddy! Thanks for sharing! Like you I often get so focused on coming up with an awesome story that I avoid writing it. I think this class is great because we get so much feedback, but it can also be daunting having other students critique your work. For a perfectionist this must be even harder! One thing that I do to stop myself from just doing the story planning is when I do my reading notes I come up with ideas then. That way when its time to write I already have ideas and I can jump right in! I hope this helps and remember we are almost done with the semester!
